The Office of Admissions Early Outreach (OPPTAG) is seeking instructors to teach talented and gifted youth (entering grades 3-11 in Fall of 2018) during SUMMER 2018.
DISCOVERIES (Previously Adventures for 7th and 8th Graders) : is four, full-day program (nonresidential) Monday through Thursday from 9:00-12:00 pm and 1-4 pm. Students entering grades 7th-8th are able to take one course to further explore a specific subject. Instructors are typically paid $800 per class, with final salary determined when registration ends. Areas of interest include: computer programming, genetics, engineering, microbiology advanced mathematics, physics, exploring future careers in STEM fields, computer security and the arts.
Discoveries Week 1 (Grades 7th and 8th) : June 11-14, 2018
ADVENTURES is a half-day class from 9am-12pm or 1-4pm for one week. Students are dropped off and picked up at a central location on campus, where the students will be escorted to and from class by a camp assistant. Classes are available for students in 3-4th and 5th-6th grades . It is possible for instructors to teach up to four, half-day courses. Instructors are typically paid $500 per class, with final salary determined when registration ends. We are really interested in a variety of hands-on courses for all grade levels. Suggestions have been made for classes involving: alternative energy, hands-on science, physics, advanced math, animal science, microbiology, engineering, genetics, and problem solving.
Adventures Week 1 (Grades 3rd-6th) : June 18-22, 2018
Adventures Week 2 (Grades 3rd-6th) : June 25-29, 2018
EXPLORATIONS is one-week class (residential) – Monday through Friday from 9:00-12:00 pm and 1-4 pm. An orientation will be held for students and their parents to meet instructors and discuss the course on the Sunday afternoon from 3:30-4:30 pm prior to Explorations beginning each week. A final presentation will take place on Friday afternoon from 3:00-4:00 pm for family members to attend. Explorations will offer students different courses for two weeks. It is possible for instructors to teach two separate courses or to offer the same course during both weeks for different students. Instructors are typically paid $1000 per class, with final salary determined when registration ends. Suggestions for future classes include: computer programming, drama, exploring careers in math and science, physics, microbiology, advance computer security, and exploring majors and colleges of Iowa State.

In ordered for all OPPTAG classes to be offered, student registration must be a minimum of 7 students per course. Exceptions may be made in some circumstances. Typically, courses have a maximum of 15 students unless otherwise arranged.
Please complete a proposal for each course (unless your proposal is to offer the same course more than once for the same program) by January 19th, 2018.
